Well-known Brisbane architect and the Chair of the Board of Directors of Wilson Architects, Blair M Wilson, passed away last night at the age of 83.

A past national president of the RAIA, Blair was highly regarded as a significant architect and educator. During his 45 years’ experience, Blair made a lasting contribution to the architectural heritage within Queensland.

Blair was National President of the Royal Australian Institute of Architects (1976–77), President of Queensland Chapter RAIA (1970/72), President of the Brisbane Repertory Theatre (1973–76), Member of the National Capital Planning Committee (1976–82), President of the Alumni Association of the UQ (1979–87), Senator of the University of Queensland (1980–86) and President of the Rotary Club of Hamilton (1993–94).

Blair won many awards in his career, including the RAIA Bronze Medal for Meritorious Architecture for the design of the Kindler Theatre at the QIT (1974), Clay Brick Award for the design of the La Boite Theatre (1973).

He was an accomplished watercolourist and participated in joint exhibitions between 1964 and 1965 and one-man exhibitions in 1998, 2000 and 2002.
