Entries close on 5 June 2020 – so make sure you start your entry today!

This year IDEA turns 18. As one of Australia’s oldest architecture and interior design awards, we’re pretty excited about this milestone.

We’re embarking on this new journey into adulthood with a refreshed sense of responsibility.

IDEA is a celebration of incredible Australian interior design, architecture and product design and the amazing people behind it. But we want this year’s awards to be about so much more than just good design.

We also want to it be a platform for the projects that are making a difference, embracing sustainability and celebrating diversity across all corners of this country.

And this year’s panel of judges is our first step towards that.

Who’s on this year’s panel?

IDEA is the chance to have your work judged some of the country’s best architects and interior designers.

This year, we’ve gone out of our way to choose seven industry figures who are trailblazers and institutions. Their work is reshaping the design landscape, but their approach is anything but cavalier.

They practise design with a strong sense of care and consideration, not just for the people who inhabit their spaces, but the industry as a whole.

They represent different fields of architecture and design, different aesthetics and different career journeys.

Andrew Parr is interior director at SJB. With more than 20 years’ experience, he is the IDEA 2019 Gold Medal winner, described by last year’s judges as a visionary as “many of the best residences in Melbourne have his design signature stamped on the entrance portal”.

Jeremy Bull is Sydney Alexander & CO.’s principal. He too brings more than 20 years’ experience to the IDEA panel, asserting himself in the industry by creating timeless, beautiful spaces for those who care deeply.

Anna Spiro brings her explosively colourful and creative style from Brisbane. With two decades’ worth of experience, she creates unique, comfortable and awe-inspiring environments that people want to linger in.

Brendan Wong bring 25 years of experience across Australia, London and Paris. The Sydney interior designer and interior architect evokes restrained luxury in all his spaces.

Rachel Luchetti is principal at Luchetti Krelle. A strong leader, the Sydney-based designer weaves her wealth of interior design experience spanning both the hospitality and commercial sectors into highly customised projects.

Aesthete, influencer and spokesperson for the Melbourne design community, Simone Haag has spent the last decade developing a signature that is truly unique and a constant source of reference for designers across the country.

And finally, Hana Hakim. The British-born, Melbourne-based face behind The Stella Collective. Hakim’s spaces are known to have a timeless quality that touches the human core.

What is the judging criteria?

The seven judges will be judging projects and products based on IDEA’s three main criteria:

  1. The big idea behind the project
  2. Excellence in design outcomes
  3. How the project responded to the brief

They will also be selecting architecture and design studios that show strong vision and achievement for the five studio awards.
