The shortlists for the IDEA 2020 International category and Emerging Designer of the Year finalists have been revealed today.

The shortlisted projects for each category are listed below in a dedicated video and featured on the IDEA website where you can find more images and information about each project.

Shortlisted projects were selected by our editorial team. A further round of judging by our jury – Andrew Parr, Hana Hakim, Rachel Luchetti, Simone Haag, Anna Spiro, Brendan Wong and Jeremy Bull – will determine the category winners, which will be announced at our annual IDEA gala.

Here are the shortlisted projects for the International category. This category is proudly supported by Laufen.

This award recognises Australian design excellence in the interior design of a project overseas.

Qualities under consideration include decoration and spatial acumen as integral to the ‘look and feel’ of the design. The selection of lighting, fixtures, fittings, hard and soft furnishings etc comes into play here, but the handling of space, light and structure is also of key concern.

And here are the finalists for Emerging Designer of the Year 2020, which includes a very special introduction from last year’s winner, Adele McNab:

Only designers and/or design practices that have been in practice for less than five years are considered to be eligible for this category.

Consideration will be paid to the practice’s/designer’s total output to date, however, the emphasis in assessment will be on work submitted to IDEA this year.

Browse all the shortlisted projects on the International shortlist page and find out more about all our Emerging Designer of the Year nominees on their dedicated page. Congratulations to everyone who has been shortlisted.
