IDEA shortlist issue of inside magazine out Monday

The September and October issue of inside magazine is up for grabs on newsstands on Monday 4 September and contains the projects shortlisted for IDEA 2023.

Bid a proper adieu to a bitter winter with the latest issue of inside launching us head-first into a promising Spring, with Cox Architecture’s Glory Days evocative of all the joys of an endless summer and Neil Architecture’s Casa di Campo demonstrating the power of connecting rural living and agricultural farming. You can also read all about an innovative and people-centric project in Hassell’s design of Brisbane’s new Suncorp quarters.

This issue of inside explores how designers navigate with gusto and bravado the many obstacles and challenges currently plaguing the design landscape – whether that be how to respectfully tackle restoring a Heritage-listed building, how to meaningfully incorporate sustainability practices into a project, and the magic that ensues when designers push boundaries and take risks.

We begin by examining how LINTEL Studio for Architecture is committed to advancing our cities, and the wider architecture community, one small dwelling at a time. Director of Melbourne-based Ellul Architecture Ben Ellul then treats inside to a tour of his Toorak apartment.

Another project tour is noted in the creative director of MJA Studio Jimmy Thompson showing us around his AIA WA Chapter Award Home in North Perth.

Staying within inside’s people section, we’re also offered an interview with the founder and principal architect of Akin Atelier Kelvin Ho.

A heartwarming first-hand recollection assures us that Australian Design Review’s 30UNDER30 inaugural creative retreat in Bali was a trip to remember.

The magazine includes all of the shortlisted entries for this year’s IDEA. The team wants to extend thanks and gratitude to everyone who entered the 21st iteration of the program and warmly congratulates those shortlisted.
