Healthy eating has reached new heights at Preach Café in Bondi Beach. De Simone Design, who carried out the branding, signage and interior design, has taken the healthy lifestyle mantra from the menu all the way through to the fitout.
Preach café aims to help its customers practice what they preach when it comes to healthy eating and mindfulness with a menu that boasts a mixture of organic middle-eastern food along with protein shakes, cold press juices and coffee.
The design combines a sustainable approach coupled with clean and simple detailing, which also reflects the type of food served. A limited budget meant the existing site was utilised as much as possible, exposing raw and natural walls, combined with recycled Australian timbers – a reference to the coastal beauty of Bondi.
“Though the budget was very limiting, it also gave us a sense of freedom in having to create a concept working with the existing site as much as possible.”
The project took four weeks to design and document, with another six weeks build time. The bespoke suspended screen a culprit in the delays, but a necessary element as it makes up a focal point of the interior.
Edward de Simone explains other elements that were challenging throughout the process “opening up the ceiling was literally like opening up a can of worms. The process of relocating cables became exhaustive but was well worth the effort as it has added height and revealed the concrete beams, creating a unique architectural aspect.”
When reflecting on the entire process de Simone says, “As often is the case, the space and brand took on a life of its own and began to seemingly emerge out of nowhere. We also collaborated with [the clients] on the brand and gave insights and suggestions for the food offering too.”
