Design Statement

Located in the centre of Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam this workplace creates a state of the art Headquarters for the government-owned Viettel mobile network operator.

The 18,950 square metre project comprises twin towers of 21 and 29 levels, housing all the divisions of Viettel R&D, with an emphasis on workplace excellence framing the company culture with currentActivity Based Work (ABW) design principles.

The key focus of the design was on how approximately 7000 occupants engage with their workplace to realise Viettel’s new direction bringing about cultural change and greater staff engagement.

The interior spaces adopt current activity-based planning principles in order to optimise the employees’ performance, essentially making the actual space at hand ‘work harder’ than in a conventional workplace environment. Mobile working has become the norm in recent years. This mobility has driven down the space per person demand, whilst increasing the requirement for the right kind of quality and type of space.

Central lounges create collaboration spaces where staff can socialise, pin up and workshop ideas. A whole floor is dedicated to the staff canteen with terrace and can be utilised as additional meeting space outside peak lunch periods.

Lockers and storage zones enable an agile, flexible workplace and colour and texture are highlighted depending on the department.

Gym, conference floors, training, auditorium, golf simulator, karaoke, stateroom, nursing station, and multi-purpose spaces create a unique, innovative workplace where work-life balance is championed and an embodiment of the Viettel brand.

Soundwaves are a key design inspiration, where fluid and thoughtful fabrication influenced the form of the ceiling, lighting, carpet and furniture selection.
