Be eligible for a special award

When you enter IDEA 2021, you are also eligible for one our five special annual awards. These are the ultimate accolade for any practice or studio and boast a pretty impressive list of alum.

Up for grabs is the Designer of the Year, Overall Winner, Emerging Designer of the Year, Sustainability award and Editor’s Medal.

Extended entry eligibility

We know that 2020 was tough, so this year, we’ve extended the entry period for eligible projects.

Projects completed between January 2020 and June 2021 are eligible for entry into IDEA 2021 as long as they haven’t been entered in previous years.

Newly introduced categories

This year, IDEA will be introducing a new category that recognises the contributions designers and architects make to their local communities and community groups. More about that soon.

This category will support our commitment to valorising projects that make positive social and environmental contributions, as exemplified by our Sustainability Award.

Our Sustainability Award is a special award, for which all practices and studios can nominate themselves without extra charge.

Relaunching one of our most popular categories

As part of the changes we’re introducing to IDEA 2021, we have taken some time to update the Residential Decoration category to better reflect the significant and often undervalued contribution interior designers make to projects in which they played no architectural role.

Very much more than specifying paint colours or cushion fabrics, the selection, customisation and curation of furnishings, fixtures, fittings and accessories is often a well researched, in-depth and timely process.

Similar to the way in which a gallery curator designs their exhibition to best accentuate the installation and provide a seamless user experience, so too does the interior designer work to ensure their spaces celebrate the interior architecture and bring joy to the clients who inhabit them daily.

That’s why we’re relaunching this category as Residential – Interior Curation. Read the updated category description, to find out more!

Meet this year’s judges

Every year, a panel of seven superstars head up our jury. So far, we’ve announced Chelsea Hing, Brahman Perera, Ryan Genesin and IDEA 2020 Designer of the Year David Flack. Stay tuned as we announce our final two judges over the next fortnight.
