Two weeks until The Business of Architecture and Design conference

Have you got your tickets for The Business of Architecture and Design (BoAD) conference yet?

With just one week to go, here’s an outline of what’s happening at our inaugural BoAD conference in Sydney on 11 November.

BoAD sets the agenda for the future of architecture and design. With high-profile keynotes, electrifying discussions and plenty of networking opportunities, this event is all about looking to the future.

We will provide an agenda to inform you of the changes that are taking place within the built environment – changes in technology, new business models and where investment is coming from and going to.

It’s an extremely exciting time to be in the industry and this conference will unveil the opportunities that abound for those who are willing and able to embrace the change.

Keynote speakers

Hear lectures from leading speakers about digital disruption and transformation, new business models and the interaction of new technology (robotics, machine learning, AI, 3D printing) and design.

Our keynote speakers are Lendlease’s Seamus McCartney, Ninotschka Titchkosky, co-CEO at BVN and Balder Tol, general manager at WeWork Australia.

We will also hear from executive chairman of FRACTAL IQ Peter Verwer on the next three years – opportunities for architects and designers from a supercharged Asia.

Electrifying debates

Panel discussions will examine topics including disruption and your business model, and predictions for domestic and outbound business opportunities.

Things are also set to get interesting during The Great Debate, aptly held in NSW’s Legislative Assembly Chamber.

The topic? Are architecture competitions good for the city and the architecture industry?

The debate will feature Candalepas Associates director Angelo Candalepas, co-director of Dunn & Hillam Architects Lee Hillam, LAVA director of architecture Chris Bosse, Carter Williamson Architects principal Shaun Carter and BVN principal and director Abbie Galvin.

Stimulating seminars

Take your pick from four seminars that are as diverse as they are current.

People, planet and profit – What are you doing in your practice to measure the triple bottom line? A discussion of how practices are contributing to big picture issues, such as sustainability and the environment, and what values should be prioritised to sustain your business.

Industry benchmarks for performance – Hear Macquarie Business Banking’s Danny Chung present his findings on industry benchmarks, sentiment around business and operational challenges.

Digital transformation in the business of architecture and design – A talk about how digital technologies are transforming the way architects do business and deliver projects, as well as how they change our approach to running a business, delivering projects and developing strategies for growth.

Champions of Change – This panel will reveal the impetus behind the Male Champions of Change initiative and why every practice needs to get on board to help facilitate long overdue change in the area of gender inequity in the industry.

Speakers: Male Champions of Change architect group convenor Dr Jess Murphy, Carter Williamson Architects principal Shaun Carter, SJB architect Monica Edwards, Woods Bagot principal John Prentice and Bates Smart director Phillip Vivian.
