DEN Furniture and Design Trade Fair, created by Unwritten Shows, will be held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre from May 14 – 16. DEN will run alongside Design Matters: Melbourne International Design Week, as an integral part of the program.

Similarly to designEX, DEN will showcase original Australian and international design, bringing together experienced industry professionals with emerging talent in a curated hub of design and interactivity. The diverse fields of design will run the gamut from textiles and wallcoverings to quirky feature lighting, as well as charting innovations in materials, finishes and furniture.

DEN has appointed an advisory board in order to oversee the selection of exhibitors and creative direction of the inaugural event. Board Members include Barbara and John Hermon (founders and directors, Hermon&Hermon), Richard Munao (founder and director, Cult Furniture), Fleur Sibbel and Wilhelmina McCarroll (founders and directors, Zuster Furniture), Miriam Fanning (founder and director, Mim Design), Gordon Tait (founder and director, Tait) and Anton Assaad (founder and director, Great Dane Furniture).

With such a strong lineup of key Australian furniture and design talents spearheading the new event, DEN will also extend its reach past our shores, intending to exhibit at key international design festivals such as 100% Design, Milan Furniture Fair and Maison&Objet (in both Paris and Singapore).

“For the first time you will be able to see the best in Australian & International design under one roof,” said organiser Thibaud Cau-Cecile. “We want to show well-known original designers, plus unearth new and innovative designers from all over Australia and beyond,” he said.

“We are asking those in the industry to nominate businesses who are designing and manufacturing amazing objects but are lesser known,” said Thibaud. “The combination of having the best in the industry with some extraordinary surprises will make DEN a stand-out global design show.
