Nature and design in harmony — AXOR One in Atmosphere by Krallerhof

Share

Nestled in Austria’s Leoganger Steinberge, between mountains, water and nature, the new luxury adults-only spa Atmosphere by Krallerhof is a seamless fusion of architecture and landscape. Designed by renowned architect Hadi Teherani, the spa complex transforms the alpine terrain into an immersive wellness experience, marked by clean lines, robust materials and precision fittings. Teherani’s design approach — where every material, form and product aligns with the natural context — finds perfect synergy with AXOR’s minimalist One collection.

Key to the spa’s understated elegance, AXOR products are thoughtfully integrated throughout the bathrooms and shower areas. “It was a natural choice; these fittings are essentialist yet iconic, complementing the spatial harmony and restrained aesthetic,” Teherani says. The AXOR One collection of thermostats, faucets and monolithic shower fixtures, paired with AXOR Universal Circular Accessories in stainless steel FinishPlus, ensure that functionality and refinement intersect effortlessly.

Designing for context and connection

Taking cues from the surrounding alpine landscape to inform the material palette, Atmosphere by Krallerhof combines the linear with the organic to create a thoughtful interplay between hard and soft. Exposed concrete, regional wood, alpine marble and extensive glass surfaces coalesce to create an atmosphere of luxurious tranquillity.

A 22-metre glass facade opens the spa to uninterrupted mountain views, blurring the boundary between interior and exterior. This architectural decision reinforces Teherani’s emphasis on spatial flow and the integration of natural light, lending a sense of expansiveness intimately connected to the natural environment beyond.

The heart of the project — a 50-metre infinity pool that merges with a natural lake — further enhances this symbiotic relationship between built and naturally occurring. The lake, fed by a natural spring, extends the indoor-outdoor concept, offering year-round use and a visual feature that mirrors the surrounding landscape.

Precision, simplicity and cohesion

The grandeur of the alpine landscape called for a degree of restraint in the interiors so as not to compete with Mother Nature. Matching this simple design, the shower areas and bathrooms are equipped with minimalist faucets, monolithic showers and innovative thermostats from the AXOR One collection.

Teherani attributes his choice of products to the fact that they are easy to use and that they integrate perfectly into the interior design due to their design and stainless steel finish. “When you’re under the shower or at the sink, you shouldn’t have to think about how to operate the faucet. Especially in a spa, everything has to be intuitive to use,” Teherani says. “Even the way you turn the shower on and off should feel natural. After all, that also helps make the experience more relaxing and rejuvenating.”

The AXOR One thermostatic modules are engineered for intuitive interaction with generously sized controls that are simple to adjust, even in wet or soapy conditions. The single-lever faucets, featuring AXOR’s Select technology, streamline the user experience further by enabling a push-to-start and turn-to-temperature adjustment mechanism — an approach that complements Teherani’s emphasis on ease and accessibility.

In the shower areas, the combination of a slim silhouette and flawless stainless steel finish transforms the simple washbasin faucets into water-dispensing design objects installed at the sink. The AXOR One overhead shower, featuring both PowderRain and Rain spray modes, brings a balanced and sensory water experience, consistent with the project’s focus on understated luxury.

The design of the shower and bathroom areas is rounded off with AXOR Universal Circular Accessories. Teherani’s selection of AXOR accessories completes the minimalist design, offering subtle yet functional storage and organisation solutions in line with the spa’s overall design language. Designed in collaboration with Barber Osgerby, as are the AXOR One products, each piece oscillates between a design object and a functional, useful object.

The clean elegant lines and gently rounded corners match the AXOR One collection perfectly, giving further expression to the grounding concept of Atmosphere by Krallerhof luxury and restraint that allows energies to flow, and creates a space for regeneration all year round.

Every element in the design of Atmosphere by Krallerhof underscores Teherani’s ethos of simplicity, functionality and contextual sensitivity. Within this established conceptual and spatial framework, the precision and craftsmanship of the AXOR One range enriches Teherani’s vision of a design where each component complements and enhances the overall experience.

Through blending advanced functionality with a restrained material palette that responds directly to people and place, Atmosphere by Krallerhof achieves an exceptionally unique and harmonious architectural experience that, like an orchestra, is greater than its sum of parts.
