The future of bathrooms: Australian Design Review and Hansgrohe’s bathroom trend report

Bathrooms have come a long way since Thomas Crapper invented the siphonless flushing mechanism in the 19th century. It’s hard to believe, but even as recently as the early 1990s, stand alone separate showers were uncommon inclusions in private or personal use bathrooms.

Over the past three decades, bathroom design has undergone fundamental and rapid evolution. No longer purely functional wet rooms devoid of style, personality and beauty, today’s bathrooms are among the most important, well-considered rooms in a home, hotel or hospitality space.

In association with AXOR and Hansgrohe, a global leader in bathroom product design, engineering and innovation, Australian Design Review presents the 2024 Bathroom Trend Report.

Informed by insights gleaned from five vanguards of Australian architecture and interior design, including Adrian Condina, Paul Conrad, Louise Liu, Kate McCluskey Kyle and Eva-Marie Prineas, ADR uncovers the dominant themes influencing bathroom design today and forecasts the innovations influencing the bathrooms of the future.
