Nanimarquina’s latest collections explore new dimensions for contemporary rugs

Share

In a bold and imaginative leap, contemporary rug design company nanimarquina has unveiled four new collections that challenge the conventional boundaries of textile design. From sculptural furniture to expressive art pieces and sustainable outdoor solutions, Folded, Talk Talk, Nuance and Garden each offer a unique perspective on the evolving role of rugs in contemporary living.

Folded: A rug reimagined as furniture

In collaboration with Estudi Manel Molina, nanimarquina introduces Folded, a bench that transcends the traditional concept of the rug. This innovative piece elevates the rug from floor covering to functional furniture, merging upholstery and form into a seamless, expressive object.

Available in three distinct versions – ‘Colours’, ‘Pattern’ and ‘Flowers’ – Folded showcases the brand’s signature craftsmanship and commitment to natural materials. Whether it’s the minimalist purity of Colours, the dynamic texture of Pattern or the artisanal charm of Flowers, each design reflects a thoughtful balance of utility and artistry. Offered in three sizes, Folded is a versatile addition to any interior, from entryways to lounge areas.

“We wanted to explore new dimensions of the carpet concept, giving it a three-dimensional presence in space,” founder Nani Marquina says. Manel Molina adds that this collaboration was about “merging art and functionality into an object that transcends the conventional”.

Talk Talk: Jaime Hayon’s playful dialogue in wool

The fifth collaboration between Jaime Hayon and nanimarquina, Talk Talk is a vibrant celebration of communication and creativity. Featuring Hayon’s iconic, expressive faces, the collection blurs the line between art and design, transforming rugs into interactive, storytelling canvases.

Hand-tufted from New Zealand wool, each piece in the Talk Talk collection bursts with bold colours, organic shapes and a sense of humour that invites engagement. It’s a collection that doesn’t just decorate a space – it animates it, fostering cosy, imaginative environments where design becomes dialogue.

Nuance: A chromatic study in kilim

Designed by Studio Stefan Scholten, Nuance is a masterclass in subtlety and sophistication. This kilim collection reinterprets traditional weaving through a monochromatic lens, where parallel and intersecting lines create a dynamic, almost optical effect within a single colour scale.

Available in lime, denim and coral, Nuance is crafted from Afghan wool and reflects a deep exploration of colour perception and textile structure. The result is a contemporary tartan-like pattern that shifts with light and perspective, offering timeless elegance and quiet complexity.

Garden: Nature-inspired elegance for the outdoors

With Garden, nanimarquina turns its attention to the outdoors, presenting a collection that harmonises with nature through materiality and design. Crafted from recycled PET and coconut fibre, Garden upholds sustainable innovation and tactile beauty.

Unlike outdoor rugs that are adapted from indoor designs, Garden is conceived specifically for exterior environments. Its earthy tones and organic textures evoke the serenity of natural landscapes, while the use of coconut fibre ensures durability and resilience. Whether placed on a terrace, patio or garden path, Garden adds warmth and character to open-air spaces.

Together, these four collections reaffirm nanimarquina’s position at the forefront of design innovation. Whether through material experimentation, artistic collaboration or sustainable craftsmanship, each piece invites us to see rugs not just as surfaces, but as stories, sculptures and spaces in their own right.
