Vipp’s elegant and functional workplace chair and desk pairing now features more design options and adaptability.
Have you had a hard rubbish day in your area recently? If so, how many of those bulky, black desk chairs with broken castors did you see? Did the numbers get into double figures? They do seem to be ubiquitous members of the kerbside cast-off brigade, don’t they? Along with free-standing fans and wonky laundry baskets. And it’s not hard to see why. With the rise in remote and flexible working, more and more people are looking for genuinely flexible furniture options that suit a wide variety of use cases.
It’s a trend that Cult has addressed wonderfully well in its current range of workspace designs – the Vipp Swivel chair and Studio desk. The design of the pieces reflects the fact that the workspace of today is about so much more than mere functionality. Office environments increasingly need to emulate the other inviting and comfortable spaces that employees use for work. Office managers know all too well that sterile and solely practical places are no inducement to bring employees back into the traditional office space.
Five years on from the pandemic when so many were confined to the home space, the workplace design that impresses is the workplace design that sits just as comfortably in a cosy corner of the home or other remote space, as it does the corner office of old.
Vipp’s Swivel chair series and Studio desk combine considered craftsmanship with classic materials and intuitive design. The Swivel chair itself has evolved over the four years it has been in production. The original version already boasted a refined expression and quiet functionality. In 2025 the series evolved to offer a variety of options but has one key signature element across all of its iterations. And the clue is in the name. All Vipp Swivel chairs feature a smooth 360-degree rotation, so wherever you are sitting, whatever is right behind you is just as easily in reach as whatever is in front. But that’s not all. All Swivel chairs come with the option of castors or gliders for even greater functionality.
An in-built mechanism follows the sitter’s movements, meaning you are comfortably supported whether leaning back when searching for inspiration, or forward to feverishly type after that inspiration has sparked. While all Vipp Swivel chairs feature similar stylish and elegant, but light and sturdy design, there are three versions that have each been adapted for specific working conditions.
The original Vipp Swivel offering remains distinguished by its fixed height, four-legged base, and seamless and strong design.
This is the chair for the user who will be sitting for long periods (with regular, ergonomically-aware breaks naturally). It offers extra padding and an expanded backrest. Vipp CEO Kasper Egelund explains that the aim was to create a chair that would its occupant feel as if they were ‘sitting on clouds’.
Adding the potential for height adjustment into the mix, this is the Swivel that offers the same plush cushioning as the 453, but with something extra. This adaptability makes it perfect for workspaces requiring both form and flexibility.
Next to those hefty black work chairs cluttering up the landscape, how often do you also come across whole desk/shelf/work console arrangements – in pieces or missing their drawers or otherwise falling apart on the nature strip?
Like the black chairs, their popularity has waned dramatically – who wants their work furniture to be taking up huge chunks of floor space whether at home or in a more traditional working environment?
Enter the Studio desk – a compact design with either a walnut or light oak frame, and featuring a refined tabletop in Ocean marble or Bosco leather. Freestanding or placed against a wall, the Studio desk blends practicality with high quality materials, to balance durability with aesthetic appeal, and function with comfort.
