The Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA) is now seeking expressions of interest for the role of creative director/s for the 2018 Festival of Landscape Architecture. Individuals, practices, schools of landscape architecture, or collaborative teams are encouraged to apply.

The 2017 Festival of Landscape Architecture will be held on the Gold Coast, Queensland, during October 2018. Building on successful festivals in Brisbane (2014), Melbourne (2015), Canberra (2016), and the upcoming festival in Sydney (2017), the 2018 creative directors will be tasked with developing the content and theme for this large-scale event.

The appointed creative director will be responsible for the conceptualisation and execution of the 2017 festival. Whilst the wide ranging events will fall under the theme of the festival, the creative director will be primarily responsible for the curation of the conference. The fringe events include a student program, welcome reception, two-day conference, National Landscape Architecture Awards presentation, major public activations, AILA annual general meeting, national council and state presidents meeting, public talks, tours and exhibitions, which will be curated by AILA in collaboration with its members and industry partners.

The creative director plays the lead role in the festival conceptualisation and theming, including: festival theme, program and conference program, speaker selection, graphic designer selection and sponsor support. The creative director will be provided with a $5,000 (plus GST) honorarium and will receive a complimentary festival pass to the current and the future year’s festival.

The International Festival of Landscape Architecture is designed to position landscape architecture as a leading profession in shaping a better future for Australia. It has been designed to engage with landscape architects, students, universities, government, the community and public.

Expression of interest submissions must be received by 5pm AEST on Monday 11 September 2017.
