We’re giving you an extra week to get your IDEA 2020 entries in!

IDEA 2020 entries were due to close this Friday, but we’ve spoken to a bunch of architects and interior designers whose projects have been delayed by recent events or who just need a little extra time to get everything together.

So we’ve decided to extend the entry period to Friday 12 June (to save you from an all-nighter).

Here are some entry tips to help you get started so you don’t miss next week’s deadline!:

Entry form: Follow the instructions on the entry form precisely and read the terms and conditions carefully before entering.

Images: Your images should best represent your project and will be published if you get shortlisted. You can upload up to 10 images. Do not upload renderings or digital visualisations. You can include five architectural plans. Please ensure these are in JPEG, TIFF or PNG format in 1000px wide and 300dpi. Maximum file size is 100MB per piece.

Entries to the Object – Furniture and Lighting categories may submit sketches or concept drawings.

Entry text: The Jury will be looking at the following three key criteria in determining the shortlist, highly commended and winners:

  1. What were the aims of the project?
  2. How did you achieve excellence in design outcomes?
  3. How did the project respond to and meet the brief?

You will need to provide an answer to these three questions. Entries that do not answer the questions will be at a disadvantage. Write your entry succinctly and clearly, avoiding exaggeration and sticking to the facts where possible.

Word count limit: Please take the word count limit into consideration when writing your entry.

Special optional awards: If you would like to be considered for either the Sustainability or Emerging Designer award, remember to complete this field in your entry. Entry into these special awards does not attract an additional entry fee. Please ensure you address the selection criteria in your entry.

Credits: To ensure your submission is comprehensive, let us know who photographed the project(s) and any practices/designers you collaborated with.

Editing your entry: You may return and edit your entry as many times as you like. However, once you’ve made payment, you cannot change your entry.

Submitting your entry: Once you’ve paid, we will send you a confirmation email.

Dates to remember: Longlisted entries will be announced in July. Shortlisted entries will be announced the last week of August and the winners will be unveiled at the end of November.

The coronavirus pandemic may have changed the way we celebrate this year’s awards, but it has not changed our commitment to celebrating Australian design and providing a platform for the practitioners who create amazing projects and products.

Don’t forget our incredible judges for IDEA 2020 – Luchetti Krelle’s Rachel Luchetti, Alexander & CO.’s Jeremy Bull, The Stella Collective’s Hana Hakim, SJB and IDEA 2019 Gold Medal winner Andrew Parr, Brendan Wong, Simone Haag and Anna Spiro. Here’s what they’ll be looking for.
