One of the longest-running global award programs is open for 2018 entries. Designers and manufacturers from around the world can now submit their products into the Red Dot product design awards.

The Red Dot Award for product design was originally founded in 1955 when a group of designers met to assess the best innovations of the time. Since then, products have continued to be submitted, growing into ever more categories. The award program now consists of 48 categories, including fashion and accessories, consumer electronics, furniture and medical equipment.

The jury process takes several days with a range of international experts from the design industry evaluating the entries. The submissions are not compared with one another, but tested, discussed and looked at individually.

Part of the assessment criteria is around its degree of innovation, formal quality, symbolic and emotional content, durability and of course ergonomic and environmental components.

The three levels of recognition include Honorable Mention for a well-executed design, Red Dot for high design quality and Red Dot Best of the Best, which is the highest prize achievable.

Early Bird: 9 October 2017 – 28 November 2017
Regular: 29 November 2017 – 16 January 2018
Latecomer: 17 January 2018 – 9 February 2018
