The design of this project was focused on the principles of sustainable development such as the use of wood panels, using rigid hemp insulation, orientation and aperture for optimal solar comfort.
The project involved creation of a new studio and gallery space with flexibility to house different workplace arrangements from permanent subtenant to a series of hot desks for short stay freelancers.
Phoenix from the flames: Rarely can this term be used without denoting a metaphor, and while A. Baker quite literally has come from flames, it is also a metaphor for an emerging spirit of design in our nation’s capital.
Things like cabinets, kitchen apparatus and storage areas are traditionally placed on top and around the bench, but the new range assimilates these objects and structures into newly assigned spaces or 'islands'.
