For our latest competition, we’re offering readers the chance to win one of 16 Aeron chairs from Herman Miller valued at $1850 each.

The contest is now closed.

When designers Bill Stumpf and Don Chadwick set out to design the Aeron chair in 1994, they sought to create a chair that was health-positive, cross-performing, inclusively sized and environmentally sensitive.

“Aeron demonstrated a pioneering step in ergonomics and material innovation, and provided a comfortable solution without the standard use of foam, fabric or leather,” says Herman Miller.

“It changed people’s perception of what an office chair could be, and in doing so, it soon found a place in popular culture.”

In 2016, Chadwick remastered the Aeron chair to incorporate more than two decades of Herman Miller’s research around the science of sitting, advancements in materials, manufacturing and technology, and today’s world of work.

We’re excited to announce that Herman Miller will be sponsoring the IDEA 2020 Workplace Under 1000sqm category. To celebrate, we’ve teamed up with the US furniture company to give away one of 16 Aeron chairs.

While its iconic form has remained largely unchanged, the Aeron chair has been remastered from the casters up to meet the needs of today’s work.

It’s available in three sizes to provide a fit that is inclusive rather than exclusive, and is designed to keep people in contact with the back of the chair and in control of their continuous movement throughout the entire range of recline.

So whether you’re positioned forward for typing and intense focus, or fully reclined for conversation and contemplation, the Aeron chair moves with you smoothly and simply to offer proper ergonomic support across a larger variety of tasks.

Aesthetically, it’s available in three material palettes, developed to harmonise with the chair’s other components and finished in satin aluminium.

Graphite is the darkest colour and is a modern take on the original Aeron. Carbon offers a balanced neutral that works equally well in warm and cool environments. While Mineral is the lightest, ideal for today’s more open office environments.

Each Aeron chair also features two of Herman Miller’s iconic systems – Pellicle and Posture Fit SL.

The innovative, elastomeric suspension of the Pellicle system eliminates circulation-restricting pressure points and stretched the boundaries of material design. It also allows air, body heat and water vapour to pass through the seat and backrest to help maintain even and comfortable skin temperatures.

The PostureFit SL are adjustable, individual pads that stabilise the sacrum and support the lumbar region of the spine to mimic that healthful standing position.

Together they create calculated, localised support that moves the skeletal system into a position that provides ultimate spinal support.

Herman Miller was founded in Zeeland, Michigan, in 1905. Over the decades, it has worked with numerous architects and designers, and is a recognised innovator in contemporary interior furnishings, solutions for healthcare environments and related technologies and services.

16 readers will win an Aeron chair valued at $1850.

16 winners will be selected based on their answers to the question: How could a Herman Miller Aeron chair improve ergonomics in your home office?

The contest is now closed.

Winners will be selected by the Australian Design Review editorial team with the best answers published in a series of articles online. Terms and conditions apply.
