The December/January issue of inside magazine is on newsstands now and includes all the projects awarded at the Interior Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) 2022.

This year was no less than a milestone for IDEA, as 2022 marks the awards’ 20^th anniversary. 

As time gently flows, the architectural and design landscape also metamorphoses and divides into new waves, new currents, and renewed splatters of creativity.

This edition of inside was born under the star of collaboration.

Collaborations between ideas, projects, practices, writers and collaborators.

But also, collaboration and collisions of movements and concepts, all stemming from one another and feeding and fuelling each other’s creative process.

Such an edition wouldn’t be complete without a spotlight on Russell & George, a perfect illustration of an ongoing collaboration.

Evoking a supremely strong sense of intuition for what people need and want in interior spaces, Ryan Russell and Byron George have made a remarkable contribution to the Melbourne design scene since founding their practice in 2010. 

In recognition of their design dexterity for beautiful and serviceable creations, especially in hospitality and retail spaces, Russell & George is the 2022 IDEA Designer of the Year winner. 

In this issue, we also celebrate Scarpa-esque heritages with Layla, by Luchetti Krelle, a rooftop reminiscent of bars of bygone days with Kubrickian accents conferred by layered and pleated design elements, as well as by generous curvatures. 

What if A&D could also serve and protect the most vulnerable among us?

That is the idea inherent to Viv’s Place, designed by ARM Architecture and Launch Housing for women and families escaping domestic violence and homelessness.

Architecture and design are more than just aesthetics, as they shape the world one lives in, they hold the power to influence society and are a prism and lens on past historical movements.
