French for flower, the new Fleur sofa from King features backrests and flexible armrests that open like “blooming petals”.

Designed in Australia by the furniture company’s in-house team, Fleur unites a timeless silhouette with the ingenious feature, which allows the sofa to transition from a low to high profile in one sinuous movement.

“As designers, we’re always listening to what the people around us are saying about furniture,” explains Fleur’s lead designer Bradley Saywell.

“Our families often talk about the lack of head support. The ultimate brief for Fleur was to design a sofa that was both comfortable, provided head support and looked elegant.”

Sculptural and distinctive, Fleur is a design statement in comfortable flexibility.

With a reputation that’s built on steel, King knows its way around the mechanics of quality furniture design.

After all, every King sofa is fitted with the Postureflex Seating System – the same steel suspension used in luxury European cars – and supported by a flexible frame that comes with a 25-year warranty.

Transition from a low profile to a high one in a single smooth movement.

But Fleur’s unique folding mechanism presented its design team with a new challenge.

“Because the headrest is such a long section of steel, we were rigorous about getting the mechanism to perform,” explains Saywell.

“We actually ended up using two mechanisms because there was so much strength required to absorb the resistance when the headrest is extended.”

When opened, Fleur’s backrest provides complete support to your head, neck and shoulders.

As for the sofa itself, an angled body with rounded corners flows seamlessly into the adjustable armrests, deliberately designed to be slimline so as to maximise the seat surface.

Twin needle stitching separates the sofa seat cushion, flexing inwards into a slight dome to provide the perfect level of support.

For added comfort, said seat cushions feature four layers of foam, which is exactly what you want to hear after a long day of work or a lazy weekend spent indoors.

“The end product of over 40 years of King comfort technology, Fleur’s elegantly curved silhouette is understated in approach and destined to become an Australian design icon,” concludes King.

“With no loose cushions or feather fill, it’s also the ultimate low-maintenance sofa.”

The Fleur collection includes a sofa and ottomans, both available in 3 sizes, as well as a swivel lounge chair with a 180 degree range of motion.

Like all King sofas, its covers are completely removable so they can be professionally cleaned or replaced for a whole new look.
