The pioneering furniture brand, MAP: Makers of Australian Products, was founded by architect and designer Chris Connell and acquired by Schiavello in 2013. Recently, Schiavello announced a new direction for in MAP’s trajectory, breathing new life into the iconic furniture brand through ongoing collaborations and designs from local creatives.
The range features tables, chairs and storage that can cross between a dwelling, restaurant or public space – all streamlined and adaptable.
The announcement of MAP’s new direction was revealed at Denfair 2017 by founder Chris Connell who will continue to provide creative guidance and direction for the brand. By using local design talent, along with Schiavello’s manufacturing capabilities, a new range of concepts can be turned into practical forms for everyday use.
MAP’s design and marketing director, Anton Schiavello sees this rebrand as a brilliant opportunity to further Australia’s growing reputation in furniture and object design on a global scale.
“As Australia enters an exciting phase of design, we strive to be a key contributor by combining our iconic design aesthetic with updated technologies and new materials. It’s our clear vision and instinctive understanding of the industry, which will empower us to provide customers all around the world with the best of Australian design for years to come,” says Schiavello.
Along with the announcement of the relaunch, MAP also revealed its latest additions at the Australian trade fair, which includes the Plane Tables.
Designed by Connell, the Plane Tables are an elegant collection of coffee tables in various shapes and sizes. Featuring a thin table top profile that sits flushed or nested together, the design is an expression of mathematical accuracy seen in the way the tables merge or crossing over. The table comes with a strong steel base and aluminium top and in a selection of bright colours.

Few furniture designs withstand the test of time as well as the HÅG Capisco. Established as a seating icon for over 30 years, the chair is as popular and contemporary today, as the day it was launched.
