Launching this week in the popular bayside suburb of Elwood, The Milton exemplifies the ongoing gentrification of the area. Named for one of the iconic British literary figures which define Elwood’s streets, at The Milton, emerging practice Biasol Studio have endeavoured to communicate a sense of local heritage and relaxed appeal.

Responding to a brief which stipulated  that the new venue should exude the “refinement of an up-market restaurant in the form of an understated urban bar”, the practice created a response which incorporated their diverse service offerings in interiors, building, product and branding design, to form a  thoroughly realised presence for The Milton.

The Milton’s exterior façade was kept, maintaining the original profile of the site from the street. Internal brickwork is left exposed, giving an aged characteristic to the space. While respecting the existing structure, all existing internal walls were ommitted, establishing a streamlined spatial continuity to the space.

Biasol Studio explains, “our approach for The Milton was an exercise in juxtaposition, with old and new elements, organic and manufactured materials, hard and soft textures harmoniously balanced.”

With a convivial setting and a smart casual fit out, The Milton is set to become a local favourite. View its interiors for yourself on its opening weekend.
