Inspired by the beauty of Australian landscapes and a passion to work with the best craftspeople across the globe, Kett Studio is producing furniture that is luxurious and elegant yet liveable.
Created by Justin Hutchinson – who has worked in-house for brands like Tait and Stylecraft – Kett is a celebration of both Australian landscapes and true craftsmanship. The indoor furniture range is produced in collaboration with Australian outdoor furniture retailer Cosh Living, and was inspired by the notion of “inside looking out,” as Hutchinson explains.
“Particularly in Australia, we have these beautiful landscapes all around us, so we are looking out to the landscape, being inspired by place and then bringing that in to the collections. That really helps to inform the colour tones, the line and form of the product and the overall sensibility.”
The pieces, which are named after places along the Victorian coastline, have a sense of luxury but are also very useable. “We want an elegance that’s robust and durable and I think that is also very much the Australian character,” adds Hutchinson.
The products themselves are created around the world – in some instances they are made in Melbourne, in others Hutchinson has looked to expert craftspeople in Italy and Indonesia. “We look to produce anywhere in the world where we can find the best craftspeople to bring to life the designs we have developed”.
The Kett range is a true collaboration with Cosh Living directors Shane Sinnott and Colin Kupke, who are “very much hands on,” says Hutchinson. “They have great knowledge from the ten years of being in business and they know what their client base is looking for, so they are very much bringing that knowledge into the design workshop, looking for that elegance that is robust but comfortable and durable.
“I think that is what’s resonating with all their clients that have typically purchased outdoor furniture that are now coming in: an understanding of that same sensibility in an indoor brand.”
Cosh Living is this year celebrating its 10th anniversary and to mark the occasion, will be holding an event for design professionals to launch its latest Kett and Tribu collections, including at the newly refreshed Sydney showroom on Tuesday 23 October.
