COLLA FEHÉR is a collaborative design partnership between interior designer Monica Alba Colla and architect Ben Feher. Together, the duo pursue their work in architecture, interiors and furniture with a design sensibility that is considered, yet still allows for playfulness and surprise to unfold within each project. The outcome is often the result of their shared interest in drawing on cross-disciplinary and cultural references. COLLA FEHÉR places strong value on working closely with local craftspeople, artisans, makers, fabricators and builders to embed their unique knowledge and expertise into the fabric of each project.
Given their individual design backgrounds and their ethos of playfulness, it’s not surprising that the pieces Colla and Feher have selected for Designer Selects traverse the spectrum of design—from chairs to fabric, iconic record players to coffee.
Our own design for an occasional chair is part chair, part daybed, part ottoman. Combine a few for a modular sofa. Handmade in Sydney, we worked with local legends MAIDEN, who are passionate about re-introducing centuries-old joinery techniques into their craft.
We are always listening to our record collection. This sound system by the Castiglioni brothers is the holy grail where design meets audio and sits high on the wishlist. We love that the speakers detach and can be positioned away from the main module or stacked on top. The robot-like face is charming and adds a whole heap of personality.
Zouzou’s rug designs exude a timeless quality, reminiscent of the graphic arts and motifs of Art Deco and early modernism. These rugs are so good you’ll want to hang them on your wall. Plus, they are designed in Australia. The bamboo silk reflects light in an incredible way.
A classic, but too clever not to include. Bellini’s flat-pack icon was reintroduced by FLOS in 2020 and in the age of cheap mass-produced flat-pack furniture and design, it remains ironic that this has soared to star status. We love that the mirror-sheen of the stainless steel reflects the room it’s positioned in.
Kyoto Coffee Table by Gianfranco Frattini
This coffee table is a beautiful celebration of the way things come together. The table legs can be positioned in different configurations and are expressed through the square slots on the tabletop. We love that this piece allows you to engage directly with its construction.
We love how Natalia collages together simple geometries and forms to create functional objects. Her designs remind us of classic Alessi design icons but with an artisanal, handmade feel to them. These are so beautiful, they would be equally at home on your kitchen shelf or in a design museum.
James Dunlop Textiles is our go-to supplier for incredible fabrics. One of the recent standouts for us is the new Modernist range by Mokum. The fabrics are woven in Italy and the colour palette transports us to a bygone era of timeless design.
