On 27 May 2026, Herman Miller hosted the Sydney architecture and design community for its Sit Your Best event.

Machine Hall was a fitting backdrop for Herman Miller’s latest event in Sydney, reframing functional chairs as performance seating that shapes the way we think, create, collaborate and excel in the workplace. Hosting Sydney’s architecture and design community, the event brought together experts in design, workplace strategy and behavioural science for an insightful conversation and immersive product experience.

Moderated by design editor Alice Blackwood, the discussion panel featured workplace psychologist Dr Amantha Imber, Studio Tate director Alex Hopkins, and MillerKnoll global workplace strategist Alexandra Ramundi. Together, they explored the interconnected relationship between comfort, movement, focus and workplace design, positioning seating as an essential part of the office environment.

As a pioneer in ergonomic design, Herman Miller‘s approach to design was on display throughout the night, with some of its iconic chairs acting as centrepieces that guests could experience in person. The Embody, Cosm, Sayl and Mirra 2 chairs were all highlighted, alongside a preview of the next evolution of the Aeron chair.

Launched in 1994, the Aeron chair remains an instantly recognisable performance chair across the globe, celebrated for its spinal support, balanced movement, dynamic fit and sustainable design – all characteristics that are synonymous with Herman Miller designs. The Aeron’s next chapter involves two new colourways and sustainable material innovations.

“The way we sit has a direct impact on how we feel, focus and engage throughout the day,” says James Barnby, senior marketing manager APAC and MEA for MillerKnoll. “For Herman Miller, performance seating has always been about designing for the body in motion and supporting the many ways people work.”

For Josh Coughlan, sales manager ANZ for MillerKnoll, the evening provided an opportunity to present the role performance seating plays in modern workplace planning to the design community.

“Seating is one of the most personal and important decisions within a workplace,” says Coughlan. “For designers and clients, it is not only about how a chair looks in a space, but how it supports people over time. Events like this allow us to have a deeper conversation about comfort, performance and the long-term value of investing in seating that is designed around the way people actually work.”

One in a series of Herman Miller events across APAC and MEA, the event embodied the ethos of the company: bringing research and design together to support people and help them perform their best.
