“A ubiquitous, live foliage feature wall in the built environment aims to captivate guests and sets the scene for a welcoming and relaxed dining experience,” says Susan Rossi of DBI Design. The studio has just finished up work on a sleek green interior at Garden Kitchen & Bar on the Gold Coast.
A new lease of life has been given to the Refectory at Werribee Mansion by Doherty Design Studio, stripped of a 1980s refurbishment in favour of gentle grey and white highlights which accentuate the original plasterwork and classic architectural elements.
"If you are swinging around on a trapeze, the world stays still and you are continually moving around in relation to it, so your relationship to the room continually changes," said Dunn & Hillam director Lee Hillam. The studio recently renovated the Umbilico Circus and Movement School in Rosebery, creating a bright design that emphasises dimension and point of view.
Establishing trust in a bold design vision is more challenging – but also more rewarding – when your clients include the public and their elected representatives, as Peddle Thorp and James Cubitt Architects (JCA) discovered during their development for the design of the new Toowoomba City Library.
