In an exciting collaboration, Wilson Architects and Henning Larsen Architects have won a tender to design a 75 million dollar education precinct for Queensland University of Technology (QUT).

Australia’s Wilson Architects and Scandinavian firm Henning Larsen Architects will provide an experienced, global team to take on the prestigious project, which will set a new benchmark for contemporary and sustainable design.

“The project will be a flagship and transformative development for QUT, offering new technology and learning opportunities in a stimulating and sustainable world-class environment,” says Wilson Architects managing director, Hamilton Wilson.

The QUT precinct includes a new Faculty of Education teaching building, the Oodgeroo Unit and E-learning services.

Wilson Architects are Australia’s leading education architecture specialists. The firm is currently undertaking projects throughout Australia and Malaysia, and was recently awarded a prestigious international CEPI Award for James Cook University’s Education Central in Townsville. Previous education projects include University of Queensland’s Michie Building Refurbishment, and University of New South Wales’ Faculty of Medicine Wallace Wurth Extension.

The practice takes pride in understanding that current changes in patterns of learning and the impact of information technology are challenging traditional education models, which their expansive and innovative education projects demonstrate.

Henning Larsen Architects are known for their visionary design and innovative universities, dynamic mixed-use communities, and iconic cultural landmarks including the Microsoft HQ in Copenhagen, and the Prince Naif Centre for Health Science Research in Saudi Arabia. Currently, the practice has projects under construction in more than 10 countries.

“Australia leads the global education sector in terms of their approach to learning. In Scandinavia, we have a strong history in this field as well, and we can inspire each other and create innovative and effective learning environments by pooling our knowledge and references,” says partner and architect at Henning Larsen Architects, Anders Sælan.

Wilson Architects and Henning Larsen Architects are partnering with Taylor Cullity Lethlean (TCL), Australia’s celebrated landscape architects, to create a new pedestrian hub for the campus.

It is set to be an exciting collaboration for the practices, which will provide QUT with world-class educational architecture.
