ADR visits Nuanu Creative City, Bali’s new cultural hotspot, for the inaugural illumination of Tri Hita Katana (THK) Tower by French architect Arthur Mamou-Mani.

Nestled along the scenic coast of Tabanan, Bali, Nuanu Creative City is poised to become Asia’s newest epicentre for creative expression, cultural enrichment and environmental consciousness.

Spanning 44 hectares, Nuanu embodies a blend of modern innovation and Balinese tradition, creating a unique, immersive destination designed to inspire and connect individuals from around the globe. It features dedicated zones for education, art, wellness and nature-inspired living.

This visionary project represents four years of dedication, community collaboration and craftsmanship, establishing a vibrant space for artists, leaders and changemakers to come together and initiate positive transformation.

Tri Hita Katana (THK) Tower, designed by French architect Arthur Mamou-Mani, is the latest striking example of modern architectural innovation to open within the park. Crafted from reclaimed bridge timber with a rattan exterior, the THK Tower is a symbol of sustainable building practices, inspired by the Balinese concept of harmony between humans, nature and the divine.

The Aurora Media Park takes art to a new level with an audiovisual experience that merges nature with advanced technology, reflecting Nuanu’s overall ethos of nurturing an interconnected community. In this space, visitors are invited into a world where nature meets high-tech installations, offering a futuristic experience that transcends conventional media and art boundaries. The park is designed to interact with the natural landscape, utilising advanced audiovisual technology to create an environment where digital artistry complements the organic beauty of Bali’s terrain.

At the core of the park are immersive light and sound displays, which use projection mapping to transform the surroundings into dynamic, evolving visuals. These projections reflect themes of nature, spirituality and human connection, inviting guests to explore a world that shifts in response to their movements and interactions.

Designed to be experienced both day and night, the park offers a unique sensory journey during each visit. During the day, natural light mingles with subtle projections, casting a soft, harmonious glow across the landscape. At night, the park transforms entirely, with vivid, illuminated displays that dance across the terrain, filling the space with a magical aura.

Nuanu’s commitment to cultural enrichment shines through its international events and festival line-up. Recently, the city hosted the Suara Festival, a celebration of independent art, music and wellness, as well as CoinFest, a Web3 festival focused on the intersection of technology and creativity. These events attract a global audience and reinforce Nuanu’s identity as a hub for innovative ideas and cultural exchange.

With additional projects planned for 2025, Nuanu will soon feature the Eugene Museum, a collaboration with Japanese-American artist Eugene Kangawa, and iFarm, an indoor vertical farming system that introduces sustainable agriculture to the heart of the city. These upcoming attractions are designed to enrich the city’s offerings and align with its ethos of blending modern technology with natural beauty.

Nuanu is not only a destination but a force for positive change through its Nuanu Social Fund (NSF), which supports various community projects. These initiatives include the establishment of a computer education centre in Beraban Village and efforts to preserve traditional Balinese music. Through such programs, Nuanu underscores its dedication to environmental stewardship, community involvement, and cultural preservation.

Ultimately, Nuanu Creative City stands as a testament to the possibility of merging culture, innovation, and social impact into a single, thriving community. This creative sanctuary inspires individuals to connect meaningfully with art, nature, and each other, fostering a culture of inclusivity and positive change right in the heart of Bali.
