In anticipation of IDEA 2019, which will be held at the Timber Yard in Port Melbourne, we’re profiling some of the many standout projects that have been shortlisted. In this edition, we visit Hecker Guthrie’s entry into the hospitality category, Many Little.

Located in Red Hill on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula, Many Little represents the sort of destination-defining design that coaxes Melburnians out of the city and into the area’s wine districts in their thousands.

Sited to take advantage of views over an adjoining vineyard, the restaurant embraces its location and pays homage to the area’s unique charms through the use of textural brick, terrazzo and rich timber elements. The building’s interiors thoughtfully frame the muted greens of the landscape, which are welcomed in through judicious window placement.

Objects and furniture are placed within the restaurant, to create a varying landscape of enclosures, incorporating a sense of the artisan or craft in the detailing of each element – a handmade quality.
