Furniture design house Zenn Design has partnered with interior architecture studio and fellow Melbournians AKI Design on a new luxury bed collection.

Made in Zenn Design’s Melbourne workshop, ‘The Edition by AKI’  features three minimalist bed designs that capture traditional European aesthetics. Edition I, II and III seamlessly blend Milanese elegance, architectural inspiration and Australian craftsmanship.

The first piece, The Edition I, features a curved form and soft modern artistry. It is formed into three seamlessly integrated panels for ease of transport.

Meanwhile, The Edition II features a classic pairing of linens and leather in a modern, tonal palette. Adjustable side hinges allow for the bed’s position to change and adapt to its context.

The Edition III is a statement art piece reimagined as contemporary furniture, embodying the grandeur of Milanese architectural influences.

Each piece can be customised, with a preselected range of luxury fabrics designed by AKI.

Collaborators recognised in ADR’s 30UNDER30 shortlist

The directors of Zenn and AKI – Hannah Goldberg and Candyce James respectively – have both been recognised in the shortlist for Australian Design Review’s 30UNDER30 program for 2024/2025, which celebrates talented interior designers and product designers aged 30 and under.

A 29-year-old mother of two daughters, Goldberg launched Zenn Design at 24 during the COVID-19 pandemic and within three years it grew into a seven-figure business. She says supporting fellow women and creatives in business is something she’s “deeply passionate about”.

“I’m so excited to bring this incredible collection to the Australian market,” she tells Australian Design Review.

“Zenn is driven by a desire to provide local, highly crafted furniture, infusing design with practicality and translating this to a home environment. I am always thinking about the end user and how Australians want to live in our Australian-designed homes.”

AKI’s co-director Tessa James says they spent countless hours brainstorming, sketching and prototyping with Zenn.

“It’s those moments of creative synergy that truly shine through in this collection,” she says.

The Edition by AKI has a lead time of six to eight weeks. Explore the collection on the Zenn Design website.
