Image above, Buttercup, designed by Blu Dot has been given a sleek and modern update.

The Mid Century inspired Buttercup range was first introduced in 2006, a modern homage to the foundational moulded ply work by Charles and Ray Eames’. Buttercup is an exercise in striking yet simple materiality, with a form entirely defined by fluid timber veneer. Though Buttercup is now approaching its tenth birthday it has retained a relevant modernity, more so than ever now with the introduction of a new finish.

The Buttercup has traditionally been available in three finish options, with white oak, graphite or walnut timber veneer on a stainless steel base. Recently, Blu Dot introduced a new midnight finish to the range. Featuring a sleek dark ash veneer and a near-black navy powder-coated steel swivel base, the new Buttercup has a highly contemporary, brooding look.

The Buttercup features a curvaceous bent plywood seat, back rest and arms, providing form-fitting comfort without the need for upholstery. Exuding an understated strength of form, the Buttercup brings the decorative quality of the timber finish to the fore.

All of Blu Dot’s products are designed in-house in their Minneapolis studio.
