Australian insulated panel supplier Bondor take their green principles to an unexpected realm, working with architect Fraser Paxton’s Build It Yourself initiative to create an eco-friendly cubby house for charity.

Paul Adams, Bondor national product manager, believed that children would benefit from being exposed to sustainable living concepts early in life.

“We wanted this to be a cubby with a difference – the first truly eco-friendly cubby house on offer for kids,” Adams said.

“It will have the usual Bondor features we would provide to any clients, with a cool insulated frame, great colour theme – and all the things which are important in any cubby house, like plenty of space to play.”

Architect Fraser Paxton was intrigued by the concept of making the cubby aesthetically sympathetic to its natural surrounds.

“Basically, I was trying to think about what I would want from a cubby house if I was a child,” said Paxton.

“There’s something appealing about the rooftop garden, it keeps the cubby house cool and helps it blend in as well.

“The different levels of transparency in the windows, the screen by the front door – it provides enough mystery and playfulness to allow for plenty of imaginative games.”

The cubby houses will be auctioned for Kids Under Cover, an organisation supporting vulnerable young people between the ages of 12 and 25 who are either homeless or at risk of homelessness.

All entries for the Kids Under Cover Cubby House Challenge will be on display and will be auctioned at the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show from 25 March to 29 March 2015.
