While we are usually collecting or admiring the work of designers, what they collect or desire remains an enigma. The tables, however, are about to be turned through an Art Month discussion with five designers of note: Liane Rossler, Henry Wilson, George Livissianis, Jonathan Logan and Tomek Archer. What will make the discussion interesting is not only the variety of design practices represented, but the different aesthetics each pursue.

As the co-founder and former director and designer of Dinosaur Designs, Rossler is arguably the most well-known design figure of the group and certainly one of the most collected. Interior architect, Livissianis, has been winning awards for his commercial and hospitality interiors for the last few years, as well as enjoying a long career in the industry, including stints with both Peter Geyer in the UK and Burley Katon Halliday, both of which were preceded by work experience at 16 with Denton Corker Marshall.

Described as “ridiculously talented” on the SOYA (Spirit of Youth Awareness) website, Archer was the SOYA Interior Design winner for 2012 and recipient of a mentorship with Brian Zulaikha. Product designer Wilson, is ridiculously talented, period. His ceramic Anglepoise, which posits reinvigorating design for continued use, is a delight, as is his enamel kettle and beech flex range. Launch Pad 2011 winner Logan, of leather bound table leg fame, completes the field.

It is in fact an animated, thoughtful, opinionated and feisty bunch and should make for a lively discussion. It is a free event, but numbers are limited – book online.

When: 14 March
Time: 6pm to 8 pm
Location: ECC Lighting + Furniture, 17 Thurlow Street, Redfern
