New book from Thames & Hudson: Hare + Klein

Share

Hosted in the beautiful Fanuli showrooms in Cremorne, the glitterati of the design and architecture industry gathered last night to launch Hare + Klein: texture colour comfort. A beautiful publication from Thames & Hudson co-authored by David Clark and Meryl Hare, the book will be reviewed in Inside magazine’s issue #84.

Inducted into the Design Institute of Australia’s Hall of Fame in 2011, Hare is a well-known and much admired designer, while Clark, perhaps best known for his role as the editor-in-chief of Vogue Living magazine from 1993 to 2013, is also a well-respected voice and champion of design excellence.

Meryl Hare speaks at the book launch.

An excerpt from the book’s introduction:

“Interior design is a complex and varied profession. Some designers are more architectural in their approach, dealing with the ‘hard stuff’, literally and perhaps figuratively – the building’s fabric and structure. Others are more decorative, focusing on the furniture and textiles. Some use pattern boldly and develop their signature around that. Some are exuberant colourists. Hare + Klein is demonstrably across it all. But when I think of Hare + Klein’s work, I think of layers of texture and subtle tones. Meryl’s description of a room in a Federation house in Mosman (page 103) sums it up for me. ‘We added texture on texture and layer on layer until it felt comfortable and right.’ Those instincts have seen her practice become one of the most successful in Australia.”
