The eighth edition of Roca’s International Design Competition jumpthegap is underway, offering a platform for international students and professionals of architecture and design under the age of 40 to show their talent by providing sustainable and innovative conceptual solutions for the bathroom space of the future.

Jumpthegap proposes young designers and architects to think of the future of design by offering sustainable solutions and taking into account the Sustainable Development Goals laid out by United Nations, with the goal of reducing the human footprint as much as possible.

Contestants have a choice of three categories: Professional category, for architects and designers under the age of 40 with €10,000 in prize money; Student category, for students under the age of 30 with €10,000 in prize money and the Special We Are Water Foundation Award with €6,000 in prize money.

Entrants are asked to show their vision of conceptually futuristic and innovative bathroom solutions, new products, new spaces and/or new uses and functions and to anticipate users’ new desires and needs.

Jumpthegap is run in collaboration with BCD Barcelona Centre de Disseny and in this eighth edition, the president of the jury is acclaimed Brazilian architect Ruy Ohtake.

Entries into the competition may be individual or from a group of two professionals or two students. Mixed groups are not accepted and each person or group may participate in one project only. Registration for the contest is free of charge and closes on 3 April 2019.

Last year, the competition had over 20,600 participants from 134 countries.
