A muted palette of golden hues and dusky pinks; rough-hewn, exposed concrete columns paired with polished concrete floors. Blackwood Pantry by Luchetti Krelle draws inspiration from the beachy surrounds of Cronulla and the dramatic contrast of a sunset over the bay. A focus on ‘locality’ inspired the design, just as the chef and the food served draw inspiration from fresh, local and seasonal produce.

The design needed to accommodate both a takeaway-style cafe and table service restaurant on a relatively small site. The floor plan and design elements needed to resolve this in a manner that guests can easily discern the two and save confusion. This was achieved by utilising the existing concrete columns to create a communal table around it, acting as a clear demarcation between the casual and formal spaces.

The shared bar that is situated between the existing concrete columns delineates the cafe from the restaurant.

The exterior of the building uses the existing weatherboard to exemplify the seaside location but is treated with modern manipulations to add an industrial sensibility.

A corrugated-style surface running along the bar and kitchen area brings forth the notion of beachside shacks, while the seafoam shade keeps in line with the overall colour palette. In terms of furniture, a mix of grey and pink outdoor chairs blend together with a selection of charcoal and light grey stools and chairs.
