The Interior Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) winners will be announced at the IDEA 2023 Gala in just two weeks. Here’s what to look forward to if you’re coming along.

IDEA is Australia’s premier interior design and architecture award. Since 2003, the program has championed the very best in Australian architecture and interior design with an evening of great food, drinks, community and healthy competition between the country’s most impressive studios.

We have an extra special night planned for IDEA’s 21st year. For the uninitiated, here’s what to expect.

Where and when

The IDEA Gala is returning to Centennial Homestead in Sydney on Thursday 23 November. Doors will open at 5:30pm with roaming canapés and drinks served ahead of a 6pm start.

Drink

Four Pillars, the International Gin Producer of the Year, will be serving specialty negronis and cocktails, while Moo Brew has local beers covered.

There will also be a selection of Mitchelton Estate wines, as well as non-alcoholic beverages available on the night.

Eat

Gala attendees will not be left wanting for dinner, with more than five food stations planned to satiate a hungry crowd.

Graze at the cheese and charcuterie stations or grab something more substantial at the seafood, paella or pasta stations before moving onto dessert.

A late-night Hunger Buster Station will also be available to those that work up an appetite dancing and chatting into the late hours.

The awards ceremony 

Our main event – the IDEA winners ceremony – kicks off at 7:00pm.

Emcees will present awards across 15 categories including: Colour, Community, Event, Hospitality, Institutional, International, Object – Furniture and Lighting – Professional, Object – Furniture and Lighting – Rising, Public Space, Residential – Interior Curation, Residential Multi, Residential Single, Retail, Workplace Over 1000sqm and Workplace Under 1000sqm.

Six special awards will also be announced on the night, honouring the Emerging Designer of the Year, Designer of the Year, Overall Project Winner and the IDEA Gold Medallist. See who’s on the shortlist.

A chance to dance and mingle

Once the presentation is complete and winners have collected their coveted trophies, the party of the year really begins.

There will be a DJ on the decks for those who want to boogie and plenty of indoor and outdoor space to roam and chat against the backdrop of the gorgeous Centennial Homestead. 

The IDEA Gala allows those in Australia’s A+D community to let their hair down and celebrate the year’s best projects. It’s also a wonderful opportunity to rub shoulders with industry heavyweights and meet the talent to watch.
