Since its conception in 1991, the annual Melbourne International Design Week has been celebrating design excellence and creativity both locally and internationally. The event aims to foster a strong design culture by providing a platform to showcase the best of design in Australia and abroad. This year the event will commence on April 1.
This week-long program is organised in partnership with Agldeas and the Arts Centre Melbourne. The event provides participants an opportunity to be inspired by local and international design experts and design-driven innovation. It highlights the role of design as a connecting link between creativity, technology, economy and society.
The Melbourne International Design Week will be officially launched on February 5 through a special launch event organised at the Rokeby Studios in Collingwood. It is here that the details for a public installation on the Arts Centre Lawn will be announced.
The official launch will also reveal the names of all the 40 speakers who will be addressing the most important event of the design week, Look Upstairs. It is a professional development resource for all creative practitioners including designers, advertisers, educators and students.
Other events taking place during the design week will include a series of discussions and presentations to examine the role of design in building competitive business advantage and student participation and career expos to motivate future design leaders.
