This week, Grimshaw launched a podcast series on how global cities will “adapt and flourish” in a post-pandemic world.
It comes as more and more practices and publications increasingly turn to the medium to share their insights on design, architecture and urbanism.
With that in mind, ADR has waded through the myriad of podcasts out there on the topics to put together this list of the best from Australia and around the world.
The City Series
Hosted by Grimshaw’s strategic advisor on the cities practice Tim Williams, this first series of 10 podcasts invites an international cast of urbanists, planners, developers, civic and cultural leaders, ministers and engaged city-shapers to robust and lively conversations on the future of all things urban.
Guests include Deputy Lord Mayor of Sydney Jess Scully, Mirvac CEO Susan Lloyd-Hurowitz and the NSW Minister for Planning and Public Spaces Rob Stokes.
When creativity meets strategy, design becomes valuable and inspiring. In a world of increasing complexity and opportunity, Hassell Talks brings together the minds tackling some of the biggest global challenges with the designers helping to create places people love – in a podcast you’ll love to hear.
Face to Face
Face to Face is a podcast series from Dezeen featuring conversations with the biggest names in architecture and design. Published every Tuesday morning, the first series includes interviews with Es Devlin, Thomas Heatherwick, Hella Jongerius, John Pawson, Roksanda Illinčić, Tom Dixon and David Chipperfield.
The Business of Architecture and Design
While ADR‘s the Business of Architecture and Design podcast is on a little hiatus, there is still plenty of great listening to be had with guests like LAVA’s Chris Bosse, Gensler managing director Tom Owens and Hayball director Richard Leonard, as they share their stories, successes and failures as business leaders and practitioners in a uniquely Australian context.
Each week, hosts Spencer Bailey and Andrew Zuckerman respectively interview a leading mind who has made a profound impact in their field, contributed to the larger conversation and is concerned with the planet we all share. Past guests include Tom Kundig and Elizabeth Diller.
Scratching the Surface
Wide-ranging conversations with designers, architects, writers, academics, artists and theorists about how design shapes culture. Previous guests include architecture critic Paul Goldberger, MoMA design curator Paola Antonelli and architect and OMA partner Reinier de Graaf.
The Design Dialogues
A series of conversations with architects and interior designers from across Asia and Australia including K.P.D.O’s Kerry Phelan, Mim Fanning and Kate Challis as they take you on an audio tour of their homes, their journey as designers or just their thoughts on what is it to work in this industry.
In a clever yet thoughtful way, host and creator Roman Mars uncovers the ways in which design shapes our world. From the creation of the Hawaiian shirt to explorations of little-known architectural treasures, Mars unveils the powerful ways style exists in all the places we aren’t looking.
The Style Files
Interior designer and tastemaker Paloma Contreras takes you further into the beloved “The Style Files” column from her blog, La Dolce Vita, for thoughtful, engaging conversations with creative entrepreneurs. Delve into the journeys of design luminaries and design industry trailblazers through these fascinating talks.
The Modern House
Cult estate agent The Modern House touts its podcast, which invites a guest to share their three favourite homes anywhere in the world. Think architect Jonathan Tuckey, as well as designers Faye Toogood and Ab Rogers.
In a series of intimate conversations, Devers and Derringer offer a voice to designers outside of their creations in an effort to uncover what makes them human. Recent episodes include DesignMilk and 3M.

The New Architects Podcast
Hosted by Daniel Moore in a venture from volunteer-based group New Architects Melbourne, this podcast takes the listener through the trails and tribulations what it’s like to start your own architecture practise. Season one of the podcast features interviews with WOWOWA, Architecture Architecture, Archier, BLOXAS, Edition Office, Claire Scorpo Architects and Harrison and White.
About Buildings + Cities
Lengthy, audacious, and filled with good-spirited camaraderie, About Buildings + Cities is a podcast about—put simply—buildings and cities. Its British hosts, Luke Jones and George Gingell, take the listener on ambitiously intellectual journeys through architectural history, touching from time to time on the contemporary scene.
Lauded writer and critic Grant Gibson invites a designer, maker or artist to muse on the potential of a single material – i.e. Bill Amberg on leather and Bethan Laura Wood on laminate.
