The hotly anticipated Design Show is at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre from 15 to 17 June.
Melbourne-based furniture company Cult, is excited to launch their new seating range Pa – designed by Timothy Robertson for nau, Cult’s in-house Australian design brand.
The Pa range exemplifies the perfect marriage between simplicity and elegance, and is named in honour of Robertson’s father – ‘Pa’ is a salute to the wisdom and support handed down through generations of Australian furniture designers.
Robertson’s design process reflects an appreciation for Australia’s natural environment and flora, alongside using objects as storytelling tools to tap into themes of nostalgia and purpose.
Robertson sought for the chairs to exude the feeling of a warm hug through tactility and stimulating the senses.
“I really wanted to create a compact lounge chair that was visually calm, comfortable and safe – and the timber’s velvety feel accomplishes this effect,” says Robertson.
Pa’s compact footprint and versatile design renders the collection conducive to both public and private environments such as hotel lobbies and bars, and residential spaces.
The user is promised easy mobility through the generous dual radius back-rest, and the lightweight frame ensures generous ambient light passes through and creates transparency and neutrality. It not only looks beautiful, it feels beautiful.
The simple construction means repairs and replacements are achievable, and the judicious use of timber reflects an efficient production, keeping sustainability front of mind in the design process.
Attendees at the Design Show are invited to an exclusive preview of the new Pa range at stand H42. The Pa collection encompasses a lounge and dining chair, dining armchair and counter stool, manufactured from a range of native Australian timbers, American hardwoods and Kvadrat Maharam upholstery.
Cult is a proud sponsor of the design show, alongside a judge for Australia’s Next Top Designer awards. These awards offer a well-deserved platform to up-and-coming creatives by displaying innovative products and concepts influencing the future of design.
The winner of these awards earns a stand at next year’s design show as part of a bursary package valued at $6000. Finalists include Sarah Tracton, Cal Dolby, Luke Seth and Maryam Moghadam.
The Pa range is available to pre-order now, and will be in stock in October 2023.
