Designing for taste, trust and transformation: BRITA’s vision for workplace hydration

Designing for taste, trust and transformation: BRITA’s vision for workplace hydration

Share

Once the poor cousin of workplace design, the office water cooler was an afterthought tucked beside the sink and tethered to the plumbing. Today’s offices tell a different story.

Hydration has now become central to wellbeing, and BRITA is leading the charge. With European design precision, advanced filtration and a future-focused approach to wellness, the brand is reframing what water means in the workplace.

The BRITA Top Pro dispenser in the workplace.

BRITA Dispensers sales director John Cox puts it simply: “It’s about what ends up in the glass.” And when it comes through a BRITA dispenser, what ends up in the glass is clean, crisp and consistent. The company is not a newcomer, BRITA pioneered home water filtration over half a century ago. Their reputation has been forged on revolutionising the way people access clean, great-tasting water’. While competitors approached dispensers as hot water machines with a few add-ons, BRITA engineered theirs around filtration and performance.

Every BRITA dispenser features proprietary filtration technology that reduces bacteria and impurities while retaining the natural minerals essential to taste. The result is superior water in every pour. In high-traffic spaces, from finance firms to airline lounges, taste matters. Add in BRITA’s ThermalGate™ disinfection system, which protects against backflow contamination, and the hygiene credentials speak for themselves.

The BRITA Extra C-tap.

Cox points out that BRITA dispensers, like the Extra C-tap and Top Pro, pump out up to 120 litres of chilled still water per hour and 96 litres of sparkling or boiling water. “That’s double, sometimes triple, what many systems can manage,” he says. Designed with a user-first approach, they offer glass touchpads, elevated spouts and effortless bottle filling. From gym floors to airport lounges, this is technology built for real-world pressure.

Hydration by design

Modern offices aren’t built around the kitchen sink, nor are BRITA’s dispensers. Their standalone waste systems, discreet footprints and minimalist aesthetic give designers new freedom. “You’re not stuck in the kitchenette anymore,” Cox says. “We’ve made it simple to put hydration where it matters most.”

In WELL-certified buildings, hydration points must be no more than 30 metres from any desk.

That shift goes beyond convenience. In WELL-certified buildings, hydration points must be no more than 30 metres from any desk. The goal is to encourage healthy habits by design. BRITA’s flexible systems let architects deliver on that brief without structural upheaval. With no complex drainage required, units can be installed in breakout zones, collaboration areas or even wellness lounges.

The dispensers come in two styles: the integrated Extra C-tap and the freestanding or benchtop Top Pro. Between them, they offer five water types, including ambient, chilled, semi-sparkling and hot, catering to varied palates. Semi-sparkling, a European preference gaining traction locally, sets BRITA apart in the Australian market. Each system is calibrated on-site for local water hardness, unlocking optimal performance and taste.

The BRITA Top Pro freestanding.

This versatility has seen BRITA products adopted in both heritage retrofits and premium new builds. The Novotel Christchurch, for example, has eliminated bottled water entirely, opting instead for Top Pro across its floors. In Brisbane, the Daisho Group’s soon-to-be-opened 180 Ann Street towers feature eight Extra C-taps in a new wellness club with magnesium pools and Pilates studios, available exclusively to tenants.

Form, function and future thinking

BRITA’s design pedigree blends German engineering with Italian industrial style. The company’s purpose-built manufacturing site north of Milan produces dispensers that embody European sensibilities – robust, refined and rigorously tested. From the stainless steel tap body to the sleek touch interface, every detail signals quality.

“Function drives form,” says Cox, and that philosophy shows. The Extra C-tap’s 33-centimetre spout makes room for even the tallest refill bottles or boardroom carafes. The easy-access panel, available in vertical or flush-mount options, ensures all users can comfortably fill up. With an easy-to-use cup or bottle fill selection, BRITA ensures an intuitive user experience.

Behind the clean lines is an equally deliberate commitment to sustainability. BRITA dispensers reduce reliance on bottled water, cutting waste and the emissions tied to manufacturing and transport. The systems also run on energy-efficient technology, consuming less power than many comparable appliances. From design through delivery, this is hydration with a lighter footprint.

Hydration may once have been an afterthought. BRITA has turned it into an experience. Thoughtful design, tailored performance and a future-driven approach have positioned the brand as a partner to architects, designers and asset owners shaping the next generation of work. Water may be simple, but how we deliver it matters. And BRITA is proving that great design starts with what fills the glass.
