Innovation in premium flooring has positioned Aloura Australiana Timber Flooring as a preferred choice for specifiers across Australia.
“We identified a clear gap in the market,” says Sarah Risbey Rees, Brand Principal of the Flooring Division at George Fethers & Co. And it’s a gap that she says has been filled by a reinvention of Australian timber flooring for contemporary spaces.
This reinvention puts colour first and foremost, providing specifiers with a brand new and innovative colour selection that is the perfect solution to a long-standing challenge.
Risbey Rees explains, “Previously if you wanted differing colour palettes you had to look to using European oak. So beautiful Australian homes, in the Australian landscape, have had to have European oak floors in order to be able to achieve the colour palettes clients want. Aloura allows gorgeous Australian timber to be the base of the home. Now the flooring can be an extension of the landscape.”

One of the greatest advantages of George Fethers’ engineered timbers is the company’s innovations in colouring. The rich textures of traditional blackbutt and spotted gum can be too powerful for contemporary projects. The vibrant colour palette of a spotted gum, spanning pale browns to deep reds, may suit some applications, but significantly overwhelm when specified in the restrained and calm palette of many modern fitouts.

And this is where the Aloura Australiana collection hits the mark – a range that has been specifically engineered to address this gap in the flooring market. It’s a premium, design-led solution, perfectly suited to both residential and commercial projects, offering the inherent natural beauty, the innate strength and eternal quality of Australian hardwoods, in a considered new colour palette not offered before.

What distinguishes it from other high-quality products currently available is both its distinctively Australian nature and its new take on colour. Leaning into durability associated with the popular Australian hardwoods, Aloura then tempers the visual appeal of such timbers. High-contrasts, dark reds and orange tones have been adapted to produce a softer appearance, ideal for contemporary interior fitouts.
“It’s keeping that real beauty… but it’s just a little bit calmer,” says Risbey Rees.

The Aloura Australiana range comes in six curated colours, all of which are suited to high-end commercial and residential spaces. And they have also all been designed to withstand high traffic, boast seamless stair integration and offer custom nosing options.
The lightest-coloured in the range, Creta features the subtlest of olive undertones. With a slight trace of aubergine in its grain, it’s both warm and earthy in its appeal.
Carrying flame in its form, Ignarra suggests the nuanced tones of scorched earth, with a deep base glowing with rich contrasts.
Also offering a hint of aubergine in its colour palette, Vespera is distinguished by a playfulness in its grain and expressive colour shifts. Its tonal depth makes it ideal for architectural spaces.
Weaving together deep olives, warm reds and rich browns, Maculata‘s tones echo natural materials like bark and stone. No two boards are the same, yet when they are juxtaposed, they completely gel.
Evoking warm sunlight and soft amber, Pilarus adds a subtle touch of depth, bringing a golden hue to complement both refined and raw spaces.
The darkest in the range, Penumbra offers warm brown and grey tones, threaded through with a darker, charcoal veining. Holding its inbuilt complexity, it’s a material that speaks to calmness and depth.

The material has all the properties that make it a desirable fitout option, says Risbey-Rees. “There are three to four millimetres of solid timber, so 15 or 20 years down the track, if you’re going to sell or just change your mind and want a different look, you can sand it back and restain it.”
When specifying a refined contemporary space, there’s little that looks or feels better underfoot than an Aloura natural timber flooring.
