Like Olaf in Frozen, you may find your heart melting when you step into this gorgeous ArtMade-designed early learning centre. Crafted to feel like a warm hug, the interiors balance functionality with visual calm, creating a supportive environment for children, educators and caregivers.

Little Seeds Early Learning Centre in Caringba, Sydney, combines gentle curves and a calm palette to create a relaxing learning environment for children up to five years old. Designed by ArtMade Architects director Sherif Saad, who has 25 years’ experience designing specialist early learning, childcare and kindergarten environments, the 350-square metre space is distinctly modern yet soft and playful.

A space for all ages to enjoy

“Early learning centres present very specific design challenges,” says Saad. “The design must cater to infants and, of course, toddlers and older children who will interact with the space in different ways. We also have to factor in operational considerations for the educators, as well as the caregivers who frequent the space.”

Subtle colour pops add a playful touch, along with cutout nooks and crannies for children to explore. Keeping functionality front of mind, low-maintenance materials were selected to keep the space easy to clean and hard-wearing. Saad selected a minimal palette of laminated timber, vinyl flooring in playrooms and wall tiles in wet areas.

Uniting design through curves

Gentle curves bring a softness to the design, creating flowing connections in the architecture that invite exploration. The circular windows and arched alcoves add to this geometric vernacular, unifying the spaces with a shared design language.

“Curves have always been in vogue, but the appetite for this type of geometry has certainly increased thanks to the evolution of laser-cut technology to deliver them with more precision,” says Saad. “Using curvature throughout enabled us to unify the design across myriad spaces.”

Growing the waitlist

Moatez Ramadan, from Alexandria Building Group (ABG Constructions), is the builder behind Little Seeds, with wife Lael Kassem heading up the operational side of the business. “The response to this design has been phenomenal,” Ramadan says.

“Before we opened, we literally had hundreds of children on the waitlist. Our feedback from parents has been extremely positive; they love how contemporary and elevated the design feels. ArtMade helped us create a really impressive interior that feels distinctive.”

The design and delivery were collaborative, representing a labour of love for Ramadan and Saad. “Sherif and his team were amazing,” says Ramadan. “They were very responsive and surpassed our highest hopes for this design.”
