This category recognises the importance of exterior spaces and outdoor environments for the contribution they make to the physical experience and mental well-being of the people who live, work and play in these dynamic settings.
Entries into the category are open to all commercial/multi-functional projects which feature dedicated outdoor spaces including:
The judges will be considering the submission based on:
Design integration — the degree to which the spatial planning and programming demonstrates a seamless integration with the design narrative of the project as a whole.
Site responsiveness — the degree to which the project responds to the topographic, social and cultural elements present within the site and project.
Sustainability — the degree to which best practice, human centric, full life cycle sustainability methodology and materials are embedded meaningfully into the project.
Delight and beauty — the degree to which the outdoor landscaped environment enriches and uplifts the project and the people / end users for which the project was designed.
The project is considered complete when the plantings and design elements mature enough to fully express the intended design vision.
It is essential that an interior designer/interior architect be the lead designer; and/or that an interior designer/interior architect worked in equal partnership with a landscape architect to bring the project to fruition.
Specific considerations will include brief, concept, spatial acumen, parameters, decoration, lighting, sustainability, innovation, connection with country, cultural contextualisation, safety, and the originality and beauty of the design outcome.
