The boutique rugs specialist marks its fourth collaboration with the lauded interior design studio. Australian Design Review takes a look at what’s in store for the new collection.

Led by famed interior designer Meryl Hare, recipient of the Medal of the Order of Australia for contributions to interior design and recently announced as the final judge of the 2025 Interior Design Excellence Awards, Hare + Klein is the last word in exceptional interior spaces.

Its latest collaboration with Designer Rugs continues a legacy of aesthetics-driven craftsmanship, for a brand that constantly explores the potential of interior design within Australia and beyond.

The new collection echoes the organic forms and shades of the Australian landscape

For nearly four decades, Hare + Klein has accrued its peerless reputation for luxurious underfoot designs and high-quality finishes. Known for its innovative collaborations with visionary designers and creatives, Designer Rugs upholds a commitment to first-rate artistry that truly can redefine the interior of any space.

A partnership to bring bold ideas to life

Following three successful collaborations in the past, the latest partnership between Designer Rugs and Hare + Klein capitalises on years of shared knowledge and expertise. This new collection, drawing strong inspiration from the organic formations and patterns of the Australian landscape, offers valuable insight into the artisan processes behind making exquisite, handcrafted rugs.

It is this, Hare says, which makes these rugs so “individual and beautiful”.

“We have drawn on the natural world in this collection, which aligns with the materials that make up each design,” she says.

Each piece of the new Hare + Klein collection makes for a soothing, stylish addition to any space

Hare proceeded to underline her gratitude to Designer Rugs for “unwavering collaborative support” in helping bring her bespoke design ideas to life.

Chief among the creative touchstones of this new collection is Hare + Klein’s deep-rooted respect for the natural world. With every piece lovingly crafted to achieve a high standard of luxury while evoking the organic forms and dynamic textures of the breathtaking Australian landscape, the new collection marks a high achievement in arts-driven interior design.

Fusing modern aesthetics with timeless elegance, the new collaboration promises a personalised visual experience.

The collection uses Tibetan wool, a fibre prized for its outstanding softness and durability, as well as its exceptional natural beauty.

The manufacturing process represents the highest standards of skill and artisanry, with every aspect of the design and finish actioned by hand: from the spinning of the wool to the precise, refined knotting of the remarkable patterned facia.

The collection is fully customisable to size and scale, ensuring each design piece can be made to fit perfectly within any interior dimensions. No matter the size or shape of a room, the Designer Rugs x Hare + Klein collaboration can become the centrepiece of any space.

Shores

Representing the natural transformation of the shoreline under the impact of coastal erosion, this gorgeous design fuses the organic hue of sea, sky and stone. A sophisticated and inviting design piece that adds depth to any room.

Edrom

Reflecting the subtle elegance of a lone pebble found in a rock pool, Edrom displays intricate patterns and textures that represent the appearance of centuries of erosion. Named after the coastline located near Eden, New South Wales, the piece is a visual image of a micro-landscape that remains both of-the-minute and completely timeless.

Crevasse

Mimicking the weathered rockface of Whale Beach, this arresting design brings to mind the gentle pink hues of Sydney’s extraordinary sandstone cliffs. Available in a variety of pile heights, the piece stands as a tactile tribute to the drama and intricacy of the Australian landscape.

Favo

The Italian word for ‘honeycomb’, Favo brings to mind the syrupy warmth of raw honey. Featuring sublime layered textures and cool earthy hues, the piece embodies all shades of sweetness and luxury.

Echo

Taking its primary inspirations from the hushed whispers of breeze whistling through the trees of Protesters Falls, New South Wales, the rug’s cool and neutral background palette contrasts notably with vibrant hues of blue and bronze. The piece captures a keen sense of the quiet, dominating echoes of the natural world, while also achieving a powerful sense of tranquillity.

Terrain

A tribute to the complex interplay of coastline tidal movements, Terrain evokes the bustling rockpools of the vibrant Australian shoreline. A perfect effect of brightness, colour and elegant calm, this piece is its own natural treasure for your home.

Petale

Reflective of the silent beauty of hydrangea flowers sparkling beneath cool afternoon sun, Petale presents the supple elegance of the natural world in full bloom. Infusing circular patterns and textural elements to mirror the precise layering of flower petals, this piece easily adds a heightened sense of sublime grace to any interior space.

A milestone collection

The landmark fourth collaboration between Designer Rugs and Hare + Klein is a fusion of design and handmade artistry at the highest levels. On all accounts, it stands as what Designer Rugs managing director Yosi Tal considers a “milestone collection”.

“We couldn’t be more thrilled to partner again with Hare + Klein,” Tal says. “Their ability to transform natural inspirations into refined, contemporary designs continues to set a standard of excellence that resonates deeply with the art of rug making.”
