A new house on the Great Ocean Road, Victoria. A simple T-shaped plan gives all bedrooms and living spaces dramatic ocean views.
The main living room is elevated slightly as the ground falls away, creating sheltered outdoor living space under the house. It is clad in greying silvertop ash, with semi rusted steel shading screens streaking black stains on walls and decks.
The interior is all hoop pine ply featuring a spine shelving wall that runs the length of the house. Simple, basic materials and finishes were used throughout, tough enough for sandy feet and surfboards, and a relaxing contrast to typical city textures.
It is a house purposely designed to be subservient to its exposed coastal environment, where the weather and waves are the real attractions.
