A prominent influencer of urban policy and projects in Australia, Matt Davis come back to Bates Smart as a studio director.

Until his return to Sydney from Adelaide, Davis was a founding partner of Davis+Davis Architects and a member of the inaugural SA Planning Commission and Integrated Design Commission of South Australia.

Davis is a member of numerous design review panels including the New South Wales State Design Review Panel and he has worked closely with the South Australian and NSW Governments to progress significant urban renewal as a trusted adviser to organisations delivering ambitious policy reform and complex urban projects.

A highly regarded design architect within the Bates Smart team from 2002 to 2006, Davis was integral to the winning competition scheme for the 420 George Street development, and as design lead on the award-winning Queanbeyan Government Service Centre and 55 Miller Street, Pyrmont.

Commenting on his new role Davis says, “There’s never been a more important time for cities, or more urgent need for our neighbourhoods to be better connected, more sustainable, full of life, and loved by communities. Design offers such a powerful way of creating great places and inspiring collaboration toward more desirable and optimistic futures.”
