The Swiss sanitaryware manufacturer has expanded The New Classic bathroom collection with new artistic ceramic reliefs, exquisite colours and refined accessories.
Under the creative leadership of Dutch designer and Moooi co-founder Marcel Wanders, the expanded New Classic range by LAUFEN helps bathroom design reach far beyond the ordinary.Â
From gracefully contoured washstands and sculpted washbasin bowls to refined toilets, a sensual bathtub and meticulously crafted mirrors, every piece exudes a sense of poetry and balance.

The New Classic is currently on view at Laufen’s Sydney Gallery in Surry Hills, which opened 20 March 2026.
Bursting onto the international scene in the mid 1990s with his Knotted chair, Wanders established his own studio in 2000, before also co-founding the groundbreaking studio Moooi the following year, acting as its product designer, owner and art director.
At the Marcel Wanders practice in Amsterdam, Wanders is the creative lead of a studio that specialises in product and interior design that acknowledges and embraces the past, while forging new futures.

When Wanders first worked on The New Classic collection for LAUFEN in 2022, he stripped back his sometimes highly patterned and colourful work in favour of sleek minimalism and longevity. This time around, his imaginative impulse has prevailed, visible in textured shelves and sculptural forms that add new visual and tactile depth.
High-end bathrooms discover their artistic potential with The New Classic washbasins.

Washbasin shelves come in three ceramic reliefs – Ornamental, Bohemian and Cosmopolitan – which seamlessly integrate into various living environments. Here, Wanders fully exploits the potential of LAUFEN’s masterful command of Saphirkeramik.
Cosmopolitan represents an architecturally inspired design with clean, precise lines. Subtle and universal, Cosmopolitan is ideal for modern, urban space concepts, lending an elegant and contemporary atmosphere to any bathroom.
Bohemian, on the other hand, brings an unaffected naturalness that captivates with its handmade character. This more experimental and relaxed style appeals to those who prefer a simple and authentic aesthetic.

Ornamental combines traditional design elements with elaborate details. It speaks to all who appreciate a classic-elegant style and have an eye for fine details.
The washbasins with relief are only available in glossy white.
The ceramics from The New Classic collection – including washbasins, toilets and accessories – are also available in matte white.

Pleasantly soft, the matte white surface reflects less light and possesses a velvety, tactile quality when compared with its gloss counterparts. Matte white harmonises beautifully with wood, natural stone, concrete and metal. The colour also pairs well with Sentec: the matching matte white, mineral-cast material from which The New Classic bathtub is made. Matt white surfaces also boast the advantage of being less susceptible to fingerprints, water spots and minor soiling.
For selected projects, LAUFEN offers the option of customising The New Classic ceramics in one of the colours developed by the Italian design studio Roberto Sironi as part of the ‘Colour Archaeology’ research project. This project resulted in a palette of 12 ceramic colours drawing on shades typical of antiquity.

This line up of unique ceramic shades offers plentiful opportunities for personalisation.
Accessories made of Saphirkeramik in The New Classic collection combine design and practicality.Â

A prime example is the new toilet paper holder with a shelf for personal items such as mobile phones or small care products – a welcome addition to the modern bathroom. The metal roll holder comes in a matte pale gold to match the new faucet colour, reflecting LAUFEN’s attention to detail. Similarly, a new ceramic soap dispenser remains beautiful and functional in the face of daily use.
Tied together with previously introduced accessories – including a ceramic shelf, toothbrush holder, soap dish and toilet brush holder – a stylish yet utilitarian overall concept emerges.
