Bundanon announces the full roster of artists and researchers selected for its 2026 residencies.
Renowned internationally, Bundanon’s Artists in Residence program stands as the largest of its kind in Australia, a cornerstone of the organisation’s 30-year legacy. The program continues to expand annually, underpinned by strategic partnerships with leading arts organisations, cultural agencies, benefactors and innovative companies.
Bundanon remains steadfast in its commitment to an inclusive residency program, with selections guided by independent peer assessors representing a broad spectrum of backgrounds. Diversity and accessibility are central at every stage of the process.
“Our 2026 Artists in Residence program reaffirms Bundanon’s dedication to cultural production across all disciplines and stages of the creative journey,” CEO Rachel Kent says. “There are no direct costs to participating artists, reflecting our commitment to nurturing the creation of new work in Australia, aligned with the National Cultural Policy – Revive, which underscores the centrality of the artist.”
Bundanon head of curatorial and learning Sophie O’Brien says it received a record 504 applications from across Australia and 24 other countries. “This remarkable response demonstrates growth across all disciplines and a notable increase in D/deaf artists selected for residencies,” she notes. “We are proud to support innovative practice across such a diverse array of communities.”
The program embraces all art forms, spanning visual and performing arts, literature, dance, music, environmental and scientific research, and a newly established annual ecological residency. It offers artists and researchers the opportunity to develop work in an environment deliberately removed from urban distractions, where tranquillity, natural light and the rhythms of the Australian landscape encourage critical thinking and creative exploration. Residencies are hosted in purpose-built studios and rehearsal spaces at Bundanon’s secluded Homestead site.
Since Arthur and Yvonne Boyd gifted Bundanon to the nation in 1993, the organisation has celebrated the arts and the Australian landscape through its exceptional natural and cultural heritage. The Artists in Residence program embodies the Boyds’ vision of Bundanon as a ‘creative and working art environment,’ supporting the development of new ideas and works across decades.
At the heart of the program lies Arthur and Yvonne Boyd’s enduring vision: a sanctuary for contemporary artists and researchers to engage deeply with Australia’s unique environment. Arthur Boyd described Bundanon as “a place for the community to enjoy the bush and the river and a place to be used as a forum where those from every facet of the arts and sciences could get together”.
