Herman Miller has announced the appointment of Kim Colin and Sam Hecht as the brand’s new global creative directors, building on a long-standing collaborative relationship.
Founders and principals of London-based design studio Industrial Facility, Colin and Hecht are stepping into this expanded role with a wealth of experience and design expertise. Their work spans design research, creative direction and product design, and they’re well-versed in the Herman Miller collection, having been consultants and design partners for over two decades.

As global creative directors, Colin and Hecht look to drive Herman Miller‘s future direction with respect to its heritage. They will be champions of the brand, guiding the products, communications and experiences Herman Miller delivers to customers around the world.

The appointment marks a natural progression in the creative partnership, building on a foundation of mutual admiration and a shared belief that good design should be culturally relevant, commercially useful and long-lasting. There’s a real synergy between Herman Miller‘s and Colin and Hecht’s design philosophy, that design is not simply about products, but about culture, problem-solving, longevity and the way people live and work over time.

Since their first collaboration with Herman Miller in 2006, Colin and Hecht have had a lasting impact on the brand’s portfolio. They’ve helped shape defining products and systems across the collection, including Lino task seating, Formwork storage, Plex lounge, Wireframe sofa group, Ode lamps, Civic table program, the Locale System and the expansive and versatile OE1 Workspace Collection.

“Kim and Sam have been extraordinary partners to Herman Miller for over 20 years. They are transformational in their thinking, and passionate about creating solutions that are culturally resonant, commercially relevant and long-lasting,” says Ben Watson, chief creative officer of MillerKnoll. “We are thrilled to expand our partnership with Sam and Kim – I look forward to how they’ll help us shape the brand’s trajectory in the years to come.”

“For the local design community, Herman Miller has always represented more than furniture,” says James Barnby, senior marketing manager at MillerKnoll. “It represents a way of thinking about design that balances performance, longevity, craft and cultural relevance. Kim Colin and Sam Hecht have already helped shape some of Herman Miller’s most thoughtful contemporary designs, so their appointment as Global Creative Directors feels like a natural continuation of that legacy. It signals a meaningful next chapter for the brand, while staying true to the design principles that have made Herman Miller so influential across workplace and commercial interiors.”
